Welcome

Welcome to the PTEC Blog. We are a multicultural group of mainly young people from across the Pacific who have much in common. Like the children of Israel we move from venue to venue for our worship meetings. Set up in the late 1970's this congregation began with about 10 members and has grown to approximately two hundred members.

Originally known as the University Church, it took on the new branding and identity following plans to build a church where programmes could be expanded to include more vigorous campus ministry activities and pastoral care for students who have left their regional homes across the Pacific to get a qualification. The congregation is currently pastored by Talatala Joe Talemaitoga. He is also the Chaplain for the Adventist Students Association Fiji wide and although the PTEC church takes up much of his time, he also works with students studying at other tertiary institutions across Viti Levu.

PTEC is a youthful, vibrant congregation of South Pacific and Fijian students who are in Suva to study at tertiary institutions, such as the University of the South Pacific, Fiji School of Medicine and Fiji Institute of Technology.

Our mission theme for this year is: "Grow Curious, Grow Together and Grow in God".

ReFRESH

The advent of “windows” on our PC’s and laptops enables us to multi-task. At times, when we are pursuing too many things all at once on the world-wide-web – the brains on this man- made machines get confused and in some instances they actually freeze up. To reset and to begin all over – or to help the internet browsing to start thinking again – you hit the ‘refresh” button. Most times -your computer positively responds to this command.

Most of us live such busy lives. We have windows of relationships, work, study, committee meetings, sports, and assignments, church work, Face Book, family commitments and many more all open at once. In addition to juggling between all these demands, looming deadlines on semester papers and tests are fuelling our stress levels.

It is time to hit the ReFRESH button – push away from your study desk, shut down the computer, pack your bags and head on down to Deuba. The Fiji Mission campsite is 1 hour away from Suva. Located in Pacific Harbour, the beachfront property – is an idyllic place for you to STOP, REFUEL, ReFRESH and ready yourself for the final “100 meters” this semester. Our 2010 family church camp will ReFRESH you on the Spiritual, Physical, Social and Mental levels. Because you are a part of our family – you would not want to miss it.

While on this planet, Jesus knew that His body needed time to be refreshed. He and His disciples took time out to rest. As I write this, a new twist to our camp theme just dawned on me. Because no matter how busy our lives maybe, the Lord commissions us to be His hands and feet, as well His eyes and ears in the communities he has placed us in. He is telling me, Joe, I know you are busy, however – look around you, there are many others who are in need of a cool cup of water, an encouraging word, a plate of food or even a smile. “He who refreshes others will himself be refreshed” Proverbs 11:25. What our island community needs is God infused Compassion. Are you and I refreshing others? By God’s Grace, may our time together at Deuba, ReFRESH your soul and prepare you to GO... and positively impact your world.
Stay blessed,

Joe Talemaitoga
