Welcome

Welcome to the PTEC Blog. We are a multicultural group of mainly young people from across the Pacific who have much in common. Like the children of Israel we move from venue to venue for our worship meetings. Set up in the late 1970's this congregation began with about 10 members and has grown to approximately two hundred members.

Originally known as the University Church, it took on the new branding and identity following plans to build a church where programmes could be expanded to include more vigorous campus ministry activities and pastoral care for students who have left their regional homes across the Pacific to get a qualification. The congregation is currently pastored by Talatala Joe Talemaitoga. He is also the Chaplain for the Adventist Students Association Fiji wide and although the PTEC church takes up much of his time, he also works with students studying at other tertiary institutions across Viti Levu.

PTEC is a youthful, vibrant congregation of South Pacific and Fijian students who are in Suva to study at tertiary institutions, such as the University of the South Pacific, Fiji School of Medicine and Fiji Institute of Technology.

Our mission theme for this year is: "Grow Curious, Grow Together and Grow in God".

John Peniop's message from the Solomon Islands

Thanks Sister Louise for the church bulletins that you faithfully release every week. It makes me feel as if I am literally at PTEC. Wish you all a blessed Sabbath Day.

Last Sabbath we had a great combined meeting at the Maranatha Hall at the SIM compound in Honiara. Bro Waisea and I were sitting together at AY and enjoyed the singing from various singing groups who used to sing in the 1980s and 90s. It was a special treat for our District Meeting Guest Speaker (Pr. John) who came to know the Lord Jesus through watching a video featuring various singing groups from the Solomon Islands in an album called "Light Shines In". Many of those singers who are still around came together and sang some of their old songs. It was an emotional experience as it brought back memories of their good old days. It was a pity that many have already gone to rest; others are out of the church and one in particular is in prison. Pr. John had the opportunity to visit him and he said that it was very emotional when they met. I was told by brother Waisea that Pr. John also visited the home of Dr. Jason Diau who at the time the video was produced, was only a small boy.

For me personally, this is one of the many district meetings that I really enjoyed and felt blessed. It was life-changing for me and I believe it was so too for many other people, if not all who attended. It helps me to reflect and to make sure I make things right with the Lord, even the small things that is so often ignored. It was very timely for our lesson last week where we studied that Calvary's cross does not only have the power to forgive and cleanse sin but also the victory over temptation and sin - that is to produce in us the sanctified life that God expects through our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. So may times we live with the excuse that because we are still in the world of sin, we cannot overcome sin in our daily lives. This is a deception and denies the power of the blood of Jesus Christ.
God bless all members of PTEC Church and may it continues to shine the ray of hope that gives comfort to the weary traveler who is passing by.

John Peter
