Welcome

Welcome to the PTEC Blog. We are a multicultural group of mainly young people from across the Pacific who have much in common. Like the children of Israel we move from venue to venue for our worship meetings. Set up in the late 1970's this congregation began with about 10 members and has grown to approximately two hundred members.

Originally known as the University Church, it took on the new branding and identity following plans to build a church where programmes could be expanded to include more vigorous campus ministry activities and pastoral care for students who have left their regional homes across the Pacific to get a qualification. The congregation is currently pastored by Talatala Joe Talemaitoga. He is also the Chaplain for the Adventist Students Association Fiji wide and although the PTEC church takes up much of his time, he also works with students studying at other tertiary institutions across Viti Levu.

PTEC is a youthful, vibrant congregation of South Pacific and Fijian students who are in Suva to study at tertiary institutions, such as the University of the South Pacific, Fiji School of Medicine and Fiji Institute of Technology.

Our mission theme for this year is: "Grow Curious, Grow Together and Grow in God".

No Fear for the Future

On August 4, 1891 - The 'Pitcairn' sailed into Suva Harbour. On board were the first Seventh-day Adventist Missionaries to Fiji - John I Tay and his wife. The Pitcairn had been built as a special project and mission by Seventh-day Adventist Church members in the United States of America.

With a brief life experience in Suva - preaching and sharing the good news of Salvation in Jesus Christ - John I Tay died five months later, on January 8, 1892 in his home located on what is today -Reservoir road, Suva.

His grave is in the Old Suva Cemetary.

Today - 119 years on - the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Fiji celebrates the lives of ordinary people like John I Tay - who lived extraordinary lives of dedication to God - whose pioneering spirit built a church from nothing that has swelled into a Fiji wide Mission that is now comprised of more than 28,000 members. We praise God!

In 10 weeks - time, The 2010 Fiji Mission Session (Bose) will convene at the Novotel (Suva) Entertainment Centre. It will be a time when we will Choose Leaders, Set New Directions, Sing Together and Pray Together.

Sometimes, it becomes too easy to forget our humble beginnings. Its easy to forget the struggles endured by those who have gone on before us.For your sake and those of our children - we need to be reminded about the true value of our history and why we each one can and should contribute to the future of our church and Mission.

During the Fiji Mission Session - you are invited to come and be reminded that "We have nothing to fear for the future, except as we shall forget the way the Lord has led us, and His teaching in our past history." (Ellen G White)

Do not miss the evening reports and the powerful morning and evening devotions. Be blessed by music from right around Fiji. Everyone is welcome.

As we countdown to the 2010 Fiji Mission Session - your church leaders solicit your prayers.
Dates: October 26-30
Venue: Novotel (Suva) Entertainment Centre, Lami Bay.
Theme: "NO FEAR FOR THE FUTURE"
Guest Speaker: Dr Allan Lindsay.

Plan now to be there!
