Welcome

Welcome to the PTEC Blog. We are a multicultural group of mainly young people from across the Pacific who have much in common. Like the children of Israel we move from venue to venue for our worship meetings. Set up in the late 1970's this congregation began with about 10 members and has grown to approximately two hundred members.

Originally known as the University Church, it took on the new branding and identity following plans to build a church where programmes could be expanded to include more vigorous campus ministry activities and pastoral care for students who have left their regional homes across the Pacific to get a qualification. The congregation is currently pastored by Talatala Joe Talemaitoga. He is also the Chaplain for the Adventist Students Association Fiji wide and although the PTEC church takes up much of his time, he also works with students studying at other tertiary institutions across Viti Levu.

PTEC is a youthful, vibrant congregation of South Pacific and Fijian students who are in Suva to study at tertiary institutions, such as the University of the South Pacific, Fiji School of Medicine and Fiji Institute of Technology.

Our mission theme for this year is: "Grow Curious, Grow Together and Grow in God".

1st News Bulletin from trhe GC - Atlanta

A Southern American greeting from Atlanta.

TODAY
The Bible that has travelled the world made its grand entrance to the drum beats and marching  of the Berean Pathfinder Drum Corp. The Follow the Bible  campaign and journey came to a climatic end in the Georgia Dome tonight. The Bible began its journey on October 11, 2008 at the Araneta Coliseum, Manila. It has been to over 100 countries in 20 months. The covers are coming off - however, the initiative according to Pr Mark Finley ( a General Conference general vice president) "have brought Adventists around the world together - they have recommitted themselves to bible study", he said.

At the 1909 General Conference Session - Ellen White's speech ended with the words..."I commend to you this book - the Bible" At the 2010 General Conference - it started with the same words.

World Church President, Jan Paulsen - in his opening address challenged over 2400 delegates plus over 8,000 observers to be united, to speak up on societal issues, to be deliberate and proactive in the involvement of women and children in all levels of church and ministry, and to involve the youth now.

He thanked the laity for their work and dedication and to make a committment to reading God's word daily.

This and that
Our travel from Suva to Atlanta has been smooth and hassle free. Air Pacific even departed and arrived ON TIME into Los Angeles. One of our group members and first time visitor to the GC Session, commented that  after you fly with Delta, American or United Airlines - "you appreciate the special touch offered by "the world's friendliest airline".

Our one night stop-over in Riverside (California) was most enjoyable. Thank you to The Lewanavanua's and Alberts for their generous hospitality.
We did not have to pay for checked-in luggage from LAX to Atlanta. Thanks to Bernice of FJ and Delta Airlines

We are at the OMNI Hotel. Official accomodation for the South Pacific Division delegation. Our hotel is in the CNN Centre - The World HQ and studios for CNN. Its amazing to walk past studios and production suites  - knowing that its being viewed around the globe. The rooms and facilities are the best. Thanks to Cathy Kingston.

There is heaps of walking - to the Dome, the Exhibition Halls, the airports - its just a huge place. We have been "fuelling up" at Subways, 24 hour diners, and other eateries. You will be happy to know that we have been faithfully having our fruit and salad too!!.

Laterz...

Are we missing family and friends back home - YES!
Wish you were here!
Are we missing the water cuts and power black-outs - NO!
Is it worth the effort, money, sweat and sacrifice.. YOU bet!

Blessings,

J Talemaitoga
